Considering that the sauna and swimming pool areas are essentially the same, that changing rooms are unisex, and that showers by the pool are open and offer no privacy, I would like to ask the question: is it allowed to use the pool and stay in the pool area in the nude?
I'm unfamiliar with German culture on that aspect (Freikörperkultur), so I thought it better to ask than trust what I find on the internet. A quick search of the EF forum yields this post (https://forum.eurofurence.org/index.php/topic,3258.msg31547.html#msg31547), which seems to indicate nudity is ok, but it's not backed by a member of the staff.
I'm only asking because I saw people without swimsuit last year, and didn't know whether to call them out on it or take it in stride. Thank you very much in advance for clarifying this point.
Yes, that's German custom and absolutely okay. Since everyone is expected to use the sauna nude (except for a towel to sit on ;)), you may also see nude people in the sauna- and pool-area.
It seems like there is currently some confusion emerging ... so the official answer to the following question:

is

?
(i.e. not about Sauna)
To clarify, as this is an obvious misunderstanding:
The sauna is to be used nude only, with a mandatory towel to sit on to prevent sweat running all over the benches.
Since the area is rather small as you mentioned, you will likely encounter nude people in the pool area occasionally, who are heading to or from the sauna, which is really unavoidable. However, please do NOT enter the pool, or hang around the pool area, in the nude "for no reason". Swimming wear is good, just not in the sauna itself.
Who'd have thought it's that complicated! ;D

So, you
have to be nude to use the sauna and related facilities, however you
must wear a swimsuit when swimming in the pool. I was right to ask, it's indeed a bit complicated. Thanks!

That's it. Also, please note that it is entirely optional to wear a tie with your swimsuit, we're staying casual.

But please note that it is absolutely out of question to wear a tie when using the sauna. Exception to this: if it contains threads of kryptonite.
@ Shoelace
If you see somebody naked in the pool you can politely ask to leave it.
If there is a missunderstanding please ask security.
Last year we had the issue that a guest got yelled at for being naked in the pool area, not in the pool.
We do not tollerate any violence at all, not even verbal.
How about an evening or a few hours at one day with nude bathing or clothing optional rules?^^
I would appreciate it but I don't know if there is a big demand for it from the other guests :)
We can't do that since there are still a handful of normal guests in the Hotel
With everyone saying the hotel is full of furries, I tend to forget that.
In that case it's reasonable. :)

Shame though.
Could have been fun :)
Now are people who are registered for the con but not an actual room in the hotel allowed in the pool/sauna area?
@ Killow
Thats a valid question.
It was forbidden in our former hotel but i will check back on monday if the new hotel allows non hotel guests in the pool.
Please stay tuned. :)

Then I cannot use the sauna. :( I never appear without my tie.
But regardless, I shall not enter the area. If I were to appear nude, I would horrify too many people.
Ok we got an answer from the Hotel:
People who are no residents of the Maritiom Hotel can only enter the pool and spa area if the buy a daily spa ticket at the hotel reception.
Otherwise they are not allowed to enter the pool area.

Is there some sort of hotel staff member standing there and looking at... what exactly? Room key card? But that's our badge.
Just wondering how they'd go on checking if there's a bunch of furs heading to the swimming pool.

There is a card reader at the door and it will only let you in if you've got a valid room key card. Case closed :)
