This will be my first time in Europe and I'm looking for any general suggestions on specific places to eat/do things in the Berlin area if anybody has been to Berlin before. I want to try and experience some German culture beyond the con hotel so any and all suggestions for food and general activities (touristy stuff as well).

All I really know is the Berlin Wall (whatever is left of it really) and the Brandenburg Gate.

If you can get hold of the Lonely Planet guide it's got lots of places to visit and handy information on surrounding areas.

The hotel staff will also be able to help you with finding locations and how to get there. And if there for some reason is any problems, just ask someone from the convention staff or a random friendly german fur to help you explain yourself. ^^

Berlin is a very colorful and versatile city. What you "need" to see when you are there depends on your interests. We have too much of everything to name five things everybody likes to see. Even stuff like "visit one or two museums". You can visit many museums about history, ancient history just as WW2-stuff or rather go to the Currywurstmuseum or Computerspielmuseum (= Computergames). Or Legoland and the Berlin Dungeon. :o

Of course there are the basics of the basics like the ones you already named but if you are afraid of heights, a visit on the Fernsehturm or Funkturm won't be something which lightens your day ;)

There's a currywurst museum? My life is now complete after a visit there.

Haven't been there yet, I just found the url in another thread. :D

For information about other museums you may have a look at the Museumsportal:
