Berlin-Brandenburg Airport opening postponed (UPDATE)

Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport (BER) will postpone its opening due to severe delays in the construction work. The original opening was anticipated for June 3. The opening date has, however, been pushed back to March 2013, meaning BER will NOT be operational during Eurofurence.

Anyone who hasn't booked a flight yet should DEFINITELY not go through ANY airport in Berlin whatsoever this summer. We expect this to end up in a massive clusterfuck of epic proportions - not only due to the unclear airport situation, but also because of further engineering works on the railway line between Berlin and Magdeburg (see here for details).

Eurofurence suggests using Hannover-Langenhagen (HAJ) or Leipzig/Halle (LEJ) airports instead, which are both easy to reach by road and rail.

If you have already booked a flight to BER, the airlines will rebook you to TXL or SXF at their discretion or, alternatively, cancel your flight up to two weeks before the flight date. TXL has been at full capacity for several years, and from June on it's going to be overloaded with accomodating the new intercontinental flights that were supposed to go to BER, and the new planes that were going to be stationed at BER. So it's highly likely that, depending on which airline you use, they will run out of slots at TXL and reshuffle a number of flights to SXF, or decide to dump the original service to BER and restart it in March. So unless you want to find out all of a sudden that your airline cancelled your flight two weeks before the con, now is the time to sort this out. Contact your airline for details!

I will accept other opinions as long as you all accept that those opinions are wrong.
