--------------------------------------------------------
Original Post:

I already had this idea two years ago at EF16 when I met two guys who brought their WH40K armies to the con, but couldn't find anybody to play.

How about a table top evening / event (maybe even two days?).

Personally, I could bring my own Warhammer 40K army (Space Wolves) and a self-made gaming board (grass with rocky hills and snow) and some experience with the rules and painting jobs.

My questions are:

Is there still space in the schedule for this new event?
Who would attend and bring his/her army along? (For yourself of course, not for someone else)
Who could bring another gaming board (+ Terrain, Ruins etc.)?
How much space could we get for the boards? They're usually 6 plates with around 60x60" inch (so 180x120 inch) which need to be placed on tables.
Is somebody very trusted with the rules and could act as an supporter during the games or while playing yourself? I'm personally only a "beginner" (around 5-7 matches played).
If you're a warhammer (fantasy) or even Lord of the Rings player, would you guide and help the others? (I'm only common with WH40K)

Conclusion: There is only a room + several tables (depening on size) needed.

The cool thing is... very close to the Maritim Hotel (about 3 minutes maybe) there is a store which sells pretty much the same stock as a games workshop. So we could even support people with knowledge about Warhammer if they're interested in starting that hobby. I could event try speaking with the shopowners for some discount.

My own gaming board could be used for 1-8 players. I'd say 8 is maximum because that would mean 500 points per player, which is pretty boring. With more gaming boards, there can be bigger games with higher points.
I'm german, but I think I could explain some things in english as well.

If you can only provide armies with 500 or 750 points, we'll find a way to make that work as well.

So, what do you think?

Drift

Hm, the biggest problem for me would be to bring my army(ies) to Magdeburg. Already, I got to much stuff/baggage that I want to bring, and the fur suit is more important than my modells. (And I got no car  :( )
Furthermore, I do not know if I find the time for a game of table top, as it takes quite long to set up, explain, and play.
Appart from that, I could explain in English, and I am quite sure about the rules  - I played WH40k for about 15 yrs now. (Which does not really count, as the rules change every couple of years ;) ).
Let us see if there are more people interested here...

I think the biggest problem is that people who play warhammer (40K or fantasy) won't be bringing their armies along because they either can't due to travel or won't see this thread.

I for one, rarely check these forums, so it is total luck that I saw this thread. I could bring along either a 40K or fantasy army, but not both.

If you want to put some serious input into it (which I thihnk you should, I like the idea) you should ask EF to send a mail or tweet on twitter about this event and if people want to join. Also, I think it won't be a good event to run during the day as it takes up a lot of time (3 hours per match).

I have been in the hobby for a good share of my life so I can answer most rules queries.

if you need help, just let me know, preferably via mail.

Ryudar

Thanks for the response!

First, I opened a similar Thread in the german furbase forums to reach some more people.

And yes, of course, it can be difficult to bring your army along if you have so much other stuff to bring along (for guys from the US even harder, because of costs etc.).
I'd say it's not a "must" to play, you can just come over and watch and talk...I think all of you guys know how fun and laugh it is to just talk about the hobby.

I'll try talk with some people /staff and ask for a solution.

My biggest fears for this event are, that actually no one is interested...or we get overwhelmed with people who'd like to play. xD

Oh and by the way...this is no tournament :P, it's just about fun! You can play with tournament army lists, but it's up to you if that's fun for you.

Another thing which could be done: WH40k in 40 Minutes.

In case you do not know/can not remember: 40k40 was a special rule setting during the 3rd (or 4th?) version of WH40.000, which was introduced in an issue of the White Dwarf. It is quite simple: 400points each side, game ends after 40 mins., no model with more than 2HP, no vehical with an total amor value over 44.

These games are quick, you need few models and lesser terain.  :)

Ryudar

Personally, I think everything under 750 points is just no fun xD

But we can see and decide what we're going to do at the con or after seeing how much players we can get.

Ah yes I remember 40K in 40 minutes. Published in white dwarf during 3d and included in 4th 'Big Grey Book'.  The only problem is that most HQ choices come standard with 3 wounds instead of having the choice between 3 and 2.

Either way, I'll be bringing my Chaos Space marines along.

Also, do realize there will likely be a new 40K edition this sumer.

EDIT: Who needs gaming boards when you have tables and tape? The biggest issue is to have enough terrain for more than 1 table.

Ryudar

This summer already? I heared it would be at fall 2012...

And yeah again, I think 400 points would be pretty lame. Some HQs already take 200 points x3

But that's the fun. 40K in 40 minutes was adapted to small, quick play. I've had a load of fun with it.

The rules were as follows:

1 troop choice required
HQ is not required and is limited to one.
The rest of the force organization chart is the same.
All models can have no more than 2 wounds.
All vehicles are limited to a total of 33 armour value (F+S+R)
No 2+ armoursaves
No ordnance

What this meant was that you had a smaller more infantry centred game of 40K that played pretty quickly. I've had loads of fun with the ruleset as you could play a game, tinker with your army and play anther. We've had minitournaments, 6 player battles, quick lunch break battles. I have had a blast playing these smaller 'combat patrols'. It's definately worth trying out as sometimes less is more.

Drift

@Itchigo: thanks for correcting/adding. It had been a while ;)

And yes: 40k40 is really fun to play. Instead of one game, you can easily play 3, and still have time left ;)

Indigo Icetalons

And it requires less scenery.

I'm not advocating 40k40m over a regular game though, but to keep it open as an option if the number of interested people gets to big.

We'll see how many people will attend and decide on-site what we're going to play. ^^

And now that you're mentioning it...I think I already played one of those 40K40 games, just with 500 points. The diversity is very limited, but yeah, can be fun too.

Right now I know about five people (including me) who "could" bring their armies along.

I think I'll definately bring my table along (including terrain and my army), no matter how many people want to attend.

Sorry for the double-post, just wanted to give a quick update:

I've talked with one of the staff members if we could get a room or what other options we have and, of course, it's highly depending on how many players we'll get.

I'll add the playerlist on my first post. So far, we are 5 players who want to bring their army to the EF. That's already enough to set up one (big) or two games at the same time :)

There's only one gaming board (my Woodland-Snowy table) yet. It would be awesome if somebody could bring another board, may it be a GW-modular table or a simple grass-gaming-field. Terrain/Ruins or anything similar which could help to set up a second board would be highly appreciated too!  If everything fails, we'll have to use a bare table with some terrain.

Drift

Okidoki, as for me, you can leave the status at "undiceded", and change the (?) into (Space Wolves OR Orks) :).

Thankies!

Indigo Icetalons

Lovely.

I won't be able to bring a table along with me though, sorry.
